Smart Innovation Lab: Place Where Energy Industry Meets the Internet of Things (IoT)
Terms such as big data, data analytics and Internet of Things caused a revolution in the world of technologies and traditional industries. Energy industry is no exception and that is why VSE Holding Group, part of innogy in cooperation with Košice IT Valley, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Informatics of Technical University in Košice (FEI TUKE) and SimpleCell Networks Slovakia have decided to establish Smart Innovation Lab.
Smart Innovation Lab creates a new room for cooperation of not only researchers of FEI TUKE, but mainly students who will have the latest and interesting technologies available. Thanks to various equipment, they will be able to individually and creatively solve selected application scenarios which could lead to monetization of such products in several markets.
In Smart Innovation Lab, students will work with real data and this way they will be able to discover new utilization of data analytics. Data will be provided from smart metering systems. Smart metering system is an electronic system of new generation which is able to measure volumes of consumed and produced electricity via a smart electricity meter which allows for collection, processing, remote transmission and electronic provision of data to end electricity consumers, as well as other market participants. Data is transferred in an encrypted form to avoid its abuse.
“We have been cooperating with the Technical University in Košice in the long term and we see the university as an important part of the region. Quality students represent our future and that is why it is our duty to provide them with environment proving that energy industry is still an attractive and innovative sector,” adds Andrea Danihelová, spokesperson of VSE Holding Group, part of innogy.
